Communities
Southwest Idaho/Eastern Oregon is a region of immense diversity that consists of vibrant cities, suburban communities, historic ghost towns, and isolated ranches and farms. Settled by pioneers that traveled along the Oregon Trail, the Treasure Valley encompasses the lowlands that stretch from Eastern Oregon to the metropolitan city of Boise, Idaho at the base of the Rocky Mountains.
The landscape and climate are as distinct as the people who call this region home. The variation in altitude means residents can experience desert and mountains, no snow and large amounts of snow, all within short distances of each other. The drier continental climate allows for distinct seasons with moderately cold winters and hot, dry summers. These changes provide abundant year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation like skiing, whitewater rafting, and backpacking.
With a population of over 600,000, the flourishing Boise Metropolitan Area dominates as the region’s demographic and commercial epicenter. Several well-known companies have made it their headquarters including Micron Technology, Albertsons, Hewlett-Packard, and J.R. Simplot. Ethnic groups from all over the world create a unique cultural diversity.
Saint Alphonsus Health System is proud to be a leading healthcare provider for Southwest Idaho and Eastern Oregon and the only Level II Trauma Center in the region.
