Boise, ID — Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, the region's only Level II trauma center, today opened it's newly expanded and renovated emergency department. The expansion, which began in late 2012 as a response to increased patient volumes, consists of a 30% increase in square footage, and includes:

  • An additional 5,255 square feet
  • Conversion of all patient rooms into individual suites
  • Seven additional patient suites, totaling 32 private patient rooms
  • Decontamination chamber
  • Senior-friendly amenities including handrails, ramps, lighting, floors, and more
  • New bedside computer charting equipment
  • One additional consultation room, totaling two consultation areas
  • One additional trauma bay, totaling three trauma treatment areas
  • One additional resuscitation room, totaling three resuscitation/critical response areas
  • More spacious waiting rooms with child-friendly areas

"This expansion was pivotal for meeting the needs of Treasure Valley emergency care for the future," said Dr. David Gough, Chief Operating Officer of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and former emergency room physician. "Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center treats the most critical patients in the region, and we need to respond to increasing needs for emergent care and the latest technology. A lot of work went into making this expansion a possibility, and we are expressly grateful for our donor, staff, and community support. We are proud to be the leader in Idaho's emergency care, and we know that this expansion will be a great blessing to Saint Alphonsus patients, staff, and the larger community. "

The $14 million emergency room expansion was statistically planned for increases in annual visits to the emergency room over the next ten years. The additional technology, space, and equipment was specifically designed for a greater sense of patient security, shorter wait times, standardized spaces for medical staff, and effective communication between patients and health professionals.
