SAINT ALPHONSUS MEDICAL CENTER IN ONTARIO INTRODUCES
TRIPLE PLAY TO PROMOTE CHILD WELLNESS AND A HEALTHY FUTURE
Saint Alphonsus – Ontario, along with Boys and Girls Club of the Western
Treasure Valley, are teaching area youth about living healthy, happy, and successful
Ontario, OR – Saint Alphonsus in Ontario has partnered with Boys and Girls Club of the Western Treasure Valley to introduce a program aimed at providing a healthy head start for area youth. The program, called Triple Play, plans to reach over 100 children between the ages of 6 and 18 in the Ontario area. The goal of the program is to provide the community's youth with the skills they need to live a healthy lifestyle and become more productive members of society.
Triple Play is a nationwide effort by Boys & Girls Clubs of America developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program, tailored to fit the needs of the Ontario community, teaches students about the importance of physical activity, good nutrition, and healthy relationships – aspects that aim to engage youth's mind, body, and spirit in a positive way.
The implementation of Triple Play includes a number of educational and physical components that address topics such as obesity, mental health, and emotional maturity. Youth participants will receive nutritional education that covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins, and appropriate portion sizes. They will also have the opportunity to join in a number of fitness activities - including daily fitness challenges, sports clubs, athletic career discussions, and tournaments. The youth will be encouraged to lead discussions on building positive career and interpersonal relationships that focus on cooperation and collaboration.
Saint Alphonsus has currently committed to backing two sessions of the Triple Play project in Ontario. For more information on the Triple Play program, please visit: www.bgca.org/tripleplay.
