What is a Nursing Assistant?
- NAs are unlicensed members of the healthcare team working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- NAs support RNs with the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care in a hospital setting.
- NAs help patients with daily living activities like hygiene care, mobility assistance, meals, and nutrition and bathroom needs.
- NAs are one of the present roles at the bedside and have a tremendous capacity to connect with the patients they care for.
What is a CNA?
As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) you will support clinical staff at the unit level by performing clerical, receptionist, and patient service coordination. CNA's perform various nursing care services and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients, under the direction and supervision of the licensed nurse.
What is a Patient Safety Attendant?
In conjunction with fellow clinical staff members, Patient Safety Attendants are responsible for fostering a safe environment for patients by providing continuous observation and surveillance. Patient Safety Attendants are expected to verbally redirect patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors, document observations on the flow chart, communicate changes to nursing staff, and assist licensed nursing staff with care when appropriate.
What is a Nurse Apprentice?
The Saint Alphonsus Nurse Apprenticeship Program offers students the opportunity to increase their experience by working in the field. Students work in their units of interest, gain patient care experience, work closely with RNs, and build their confidence. Students can apply for this program at the end of their first semester. Nursing students must have finished a basic nursing fundamental course and have ongoing good academic standing in the nursing education program. Learn more about this program here: Saint Alphonsus Nurse Apprenticeship Program.
How Does the Nurse Apprenticeship Program Contribute to my Career?
The job duties of a Nurse Apprentice (NA) are similar to those of a CNA role. Any NA can apply for CNA job postings once they have been certified. Students will be consistent in one unit unless hired to the Float Pool. This allows students to gain deeper levels of experience and build relationships with colleagues and patients. The program provides an easy transition to an RN or LPN position after graduation. Full time and part time nurse apprenticeship roles are eligible for our generous benefits package.
