Saint Alphonsus - Nampa Achieves Level III Stroke Center Designation

Nampa Hospital First in Canyon County to get State Recognition in 3 Critical Care Areas

Nampa, ID – Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa is the first hospital in Nampa to be designated as a Level III Stroke Center by the State of Idaho’s Time Sensitive Emergency Statewide Council (TSE). Additionally, the Nampa hospital is the first in Canyon County to be designated by the Idaho TSE in three keys areas: stroke, trauma, and chest pain.

The Level III Stroke Center designation represents an evidence-based approach to highly organized systems of care in the event of a stroke, and was achieved by demonstrating improved patient outcomes, lowered costs, reduced preventable deaths and improved quality of life for patients.

The designation verifies the hospital provides nationally accepted evidence-based practices and standards of care for stroke patients. This systematic approach starts with community education and prevention and also with 911 services to rapidly identify and treat time-sensitive emergencies, with the goal being to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Stroke patients also have immediate access to the latest imaging modalities, the most advanced medications and interventional radiology procedures and consultation with specialty-trained stroke neurologists. The Time-Sensitive Emergency Council was established to manage a statewide Time Sensitive Emergency system of care to address three of the top three preventable causes of death in Idaho; trauma, stroke, and heart attack.

Idaho’s TSE program has created three designation levels for stroke centers, five levels for trauma centers and two levels for heart attack (STEMI) centers.

Centrally located to serve the Western Treasure Valley, just off Interstate 84 at the Garrity exit, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Nampa is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center, Level I STEMI facility, and now a Level III Stroke Center.
