Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT)
The multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT) is done immediately following your overnight sleep study and is used to evaluate your degree of daytime sleepiness.
After you wake up, we'll remove some of the sensors and give you time to relax. Your first nap will start within 1.5-3 hours. The test consists of 4-5 naps scheduled throughout the day separated by 2-hour breaks.
If your overnight study shows evidence of a sleep disorder, your MSLT may be canceled or shortened. Your referring provider should have the results of your sleep studies in two to three weeks.
Your MSLT Checklist
Please bring the following items:
1. Sleep journal filled out for 2 weeks (a regular sleep-wake schedule is important to have in place prior to the test)
2. Comfortable, loose fitting clothes
3. Entertainment items (books, magazines, DVDs, laptop/tablets, crafts, etc.)
4. Food will be provided during the test.
5. Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, etc.)
Important Notes
Certain medications can affect the MSLT. If your physician or the sleep lab has asked you to stop taking certain medications, be sure to stop them in time for the test.
No caffeine is allowed during the day of the MSLT.
A urine screen will be collected the morning or before bed the night before of the study.
