Geriatrics
The Saint Alphonsus Geriatrics Program provides a comprehensive and compassionate approach to patients dealing with cognitive impairments and chronic conditions. Our team of healthcare professionals, including a physician, pharmacist, and social worker, work closely with the patient and their family to provide the tools and education to help the patient age gracefully and prolong their independence as long as possible.
Services Provided
- Assessment of geriatric syndromes including cognitive impairment, delirium, depression, frailty, falls, incontinence, and malnutrition
- Diagnosis of cognitive impairment through memory testing, which may influence behaviors
- Treatment of debilitating chronic conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, osteoporosis, insomnia, heart failure, COPD, chronic kidney disease, and weight loss
- Optimization of medications/polypharmacy
- Assistance with advanced care planning
- Facilitate a higher level of care (assisted living, memory care)
- Provide support and resources for family members and caregivers
- Coordinate care with existing providers and specialists
- Spiritual counseling

Falls are one of the leading causes of death and injury for Idahoans age 65 and older. But they are preventable.
Register today for a 10-week class to help prevent falls. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sister Angela Room, Saint Alphonsus Boise — 1055 N. Curtis Road 2nd Floor, Boise, Idaho 83706. Classes are free!
