Trinity Health Names David McFadyen President and CEO, Trinity Health, West Region

Trinity Health today announced David McFadyen, MBA, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Trinity Health, West Region. McFadyen will begin his role on July 1, 2024. The Saint Alphonsus Health System and Saint Agnes Medical Center Boards and Trinity Health selected McFadyen following a national search. McFadyen succeeds Odette C. Bolano, who announced her retirement effective June 30, 2024.

McFadyen will be responsible for oversight of five hospitals and medical groups across three states (Idaho, Oregon, California), with over 9,700 employees and a total annual net revenue of $2.1B.
The medical centers include Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California (436 beds), Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho (415 beds), Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho (106 beds), Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario, Oregon (94 beds), and a Critical Care Access Hospital in Baker City Oregon (21 beds). In addition, McFadyen will have oversight for Saint Alphonsus Medical Group with 76 locations with over 500 employed providers, and Saint Alphonsus Health Alliance, its Clinically Integrated Network.
McFadyen joined Saint Alphonsus Health System in 2020 as President, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise Idaho, a 415-bed acute care medical center, home to the region’s most advanced Level II Trauma Center, and highly specialized services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, oncology, orthopedics, women’s services. He also serves on several Joint Venture boards for the health system including the Saint Alphonsus Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, and Life Flight.
Under his leadership, the medical center launched Idaho’s first advanced Neuro, Surgical, Trauma, Intensive Care Unit reaching the distinction as a Multidisciplinary Team of Distinction, by the North American Skull Base Society, one of only 48 designations in North America. Also during his tenure, the Trauma and Emergency programs experienced 25% growth and the Cardiovascular program expanded programs and recruited specialists to launch a Heart Failure Program, developed an expanded ECMO program, and an award-winning cardiothoracic program.
Prior to joining Saint Alphonsus Health System, McFadyen served St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho as Vice President, Population Health, for the service areas of Boise, Elmore, and McCall. He also served for four-and-a-half years as the Hospital Administrator for St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center and Children’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Before joining St. Luke’s, McFadyen was Vice President of Operations at West Valley Medical Center (Caldwell, Idaho); and as Associate Administrator, and Director of Quality, Risk, and Facility Operations.
In addition to his professional achievements, McFadyen is committed to civic leadership and community service. He currently serves on the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, the Idaho Hospital Association Board, the Boise State University Foundation Board, and the Board of Ambassadors Advisory Council.
McFadyen holds a Bachelor of Science from Boise State University and a Master of Business Administration from Northwest Nazarene University. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. In his free time, McFadyen enjoys hiking, mountain biking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
