NAMPA, ID. - Breast care patients in Nampa who undergo routine mammograms now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them. Digital Mammography converts x-rays into an electronic signal that can be sent directly to a monitor for viewing. The mammography process is thereby streamlined allowing images to be evaluated immediately. This results in a shorter exam time for the patient. The images can be enhanced, magnified or manipulated from the viewing station which aides the radiologist in seeing specific areas of interest.

Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired, and more importantly, viewed. In addition to offering superior mammography technology, The Saint Alphonsus - Nampa Comprehensive Breast Care Center offers a softer, warmer mammogram by using the MammoPad breast cushion for every patient. MammoPad has been clinically demonstrated to reduce discomfort, associated with mammograms. This recyclable breast cushion is “invisible” to X-rays and does not interfere with the image quality of the mammogram.

Additionally, the Comprehensive Breast Care Center will provide bone density testing. A bone density test can determine whether you have osteoporosis or if you are at risk for developing osteoporosis.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97%. If you would like to schedule a mammogram or have questions about this important breast health procedure, please call (208) 463-5997.
