Nampa Vision 2020 Investment includes the construction of a new Emergency Room, a Comprehensive Heart Care Center, and the Birkeland Maternity Center all located at the Nampa Health Plaza (formerly Mercy North)

BOISE, ID. – Saint Alphonsus Health System is investing $33.5 million in the Nampa community to expand and enhance medical services. The investment is part of Saint Alphonsus Health System’s mission of providing the highest quality care in the communities we serve. Approximately 500 construction jobs and 85 new full-time staff positions will be created with the Nampa expansion. Groundbreaking on the project is planned for this spring with completion expected in late 2013.

“The commitment of keeping care close to home is something Saint Alphonsus Health System will continue to support both financially and philosophically,” said Sally Jeffcoat, Saint Alphonsus Health System President, and CEO. “Nampa Vision 2020 improves access to care, enhances quality and safety, promotes collaborating with physicians to coordinate care, and meets the healthcare needs of the communities we serve. We are proud to continue the 94-year heritage begun by the Sisters of Mercy in 1917 to serve the community, and provide hope and healing at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Nampa and Nampa Health Plaza.”

Canyon County residents will see a host of new services at the Saint Alphonsus – Nampa Health Plaza (formerly Mercy North) on the south side of I-84 between Boise and Nampa with the addition of a free-standing Emergency Department. The Nampa Health Plaza will also be expanded to include the Birkeland Maternity Center in honor of the late Dr. Fred Birkeland, who delivered over 5,000 babies in his career as an obstetrician and a new Comprehensive Heart Care Center to include 10 critical care inpatient beds, a Catheterization Lab, and 24/7 Interventional/Invasive Cardiology. The new specialty services complement the current services that are offered at the Nampa Health Plaza which include Outpatient Surgery Center, Comprehensive Breast Care Center, Saint Alphonsus Medical Group Family Medicine, Urgent Care, Mednow Pharmacy, Lab, and Radiology.

“This expansion reinforces our Mission of being a trusted partner for life and delivering value in everything we do,” said Karl Keeler, CEO Saint Alphonsus Medical Center - Nampa. “Access to quality healthcare is key when expanding, and the Garrity exit is the optimum location to expand due to the growth projected and current location of the Nampa Health Plaza. The quality of care we provide, thanks to our great physicians and outstanding staff is evident by our recent HealthGrades awards, especially in the treatment of heart attack, coronary interventional procedures, and orthopedics. We’ve received top quality awards, and now is the time to keep the momentum and expand health services. This significant investment helps our communities grow and thrive, and will improve the health of our residents.”

Enhanced medical services and renovations are also planned at the main hospital on 12th Avenue and include remodeling the laboratory and making significant enhancements to inpatient rooms and public areas.

A press conference to announce plans and further details of the capital improvements slated for Saint Alphonsus – Nampa is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Saint Alphonsus – Nampa Health Plaza, 4400 E. Flamingo Ave. Nampa, Idaho 83687.
