Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center Achieves the Healthgrades 2013 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™
Distinction puts Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Top Five Percent of Hospitals Nationwide for the Fifth Time
Boise, Idaho - January 15, 2013 – Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center today announced that it has received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ from Healthgrades, a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This prestigious distinction once again places Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for clinical performance. Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is a five-time recipient of this award (2003, 2006, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
“Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center has an historic commitment to high performance and superior quality patient outcomes,” said Rodney Reider, President of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. “We are pleased to be recognized yet again. Our core values and our mission provide the foundation for all we do. This national distinction is made possible by the dedication, experience and passion of all our physicians, nurses, staff and associates. We could not be more pleased.”
Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is one of 262 hospitals named this year that stand out above the rest for their overall clinical care across a broad spectrum of care. While many hospitals have specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes in certain areas, these hospitals exhibit comprehensive high-quality care across multiple clinical specialties. From 2009 through 2011, Healthgrades Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence as a group, had an overall 30.9 percent lower risk adjusted mortality rate as compared to other hospitals that did not achieve the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award (across 18 common inpatient conditions and procedures).
In recent years, while there has been considerable improvement in hospital quality, disparities among hospitals persist, and hospital quality can vary significantly even within local service areas. For example, in the Boise, Idaho region, out of the 7 hospitals evaluated for treatment of Heart Failure, there was a wide variation in hospital performance as measured by risk adjusted mortality rates (from 1.0% on the low end to 11.7% on the high end). Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is among the hospitals in the region with some of the best possible quality care.
“Today, consumers have unprecedented access to information on hospital performance as it relates to specific conditions and procedures so that they can make more informed decisions about who to see and where to go for care,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy. “The Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence enables hospitals to communicate their commitment to providing outstanding patient care and to show their continued efforts to improve clinical outcomes.”
