Curbside Care Van eliminates transportation-related barriers

Curbside Care Mobile Health UnitBoise, Idaho – You’ve read about the good old days when doctors made house calls? Here’s a modern twist: The Saint Alphonsus Curbside Care Mobile Health Unit will be on the road this month bringing healthcare to some traditionally underserved communities – in some cases right to the front door.

The mobile health unit recreates the environment of a Saint Alphonsus Medical Group clinic. Inside, patients will find a waiting area, restroom, private examination room and a mini-laboratory. The wheelchair accessible clinic on wheels is fully equipped so Saint Alphonsus medical teams can offer most of the services available at fixed primary care sites. In addition, the vehicle will bring numerous health and wellness services directly to healthcare consumers where they live, work and play. One such example: Sport Physicals for area youngsters.

The Curbside Care Mobile Health Unit will be in action Wednesday August 17, 2011 at Fairmont Junior High School at 2121 N Cole Rd in Boise from 8:30 – 4:00 PM. 7th graders will be able to get their $25 sports physicals performed prior to registering for the coming school year. Fairmont Junior High Principal Rob Thompson says he’s hoping the mobile health unit does brisk business. The mobile health unit staffed by healthcare providers from the Saint Alphonsus Federal Way clinic returns to Fairmont Junior High Monday August 22, 2011, from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

The Curbside Care Mobile Health Unit was made possible by the support of the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program, Bish’s RV, the Saint Alphonsus Federal Way Clinic, the Saint Alphonsus Foundation and other partners.
