Dr. Stephen Gale has been named Trauma Medical Director at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC). He replaces Dr. Bill Morgan, who has taken a position in Texas.

Gale joined Saint Alphonsus as an Acute Care Surgeon in the Trauma Department in November, 2018. Prior to his arrival in Boise, he was Trauma Medical Director at UT Health Tyler, in Tyler Texas, a Level 1 Trauma Center.

“As the region’s Trauma Center, we have a profound responsibility to provide care to those in urgent need of medical attention,” said Andrew Cosentino, President of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. “I’m confident that Dr. Gale’s knowledge, skill and leadership will enable our staff to continue providing the best comprehensive trauma care in Idaho, Oregon and the region.”

Dr. Stephen GaleDr. Gale earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois and his MD degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana. He received his MBA in Healthcare Management from the University of Texas at Tyler. His surgical training was at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, and he did his fellowships in both Trauma Surgery and Surgical care at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Gale is Board Certified in both Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Gale’s Trauma and Acute Care Surgery practice has included both academic and community settings with additional broad exposure to teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives. He has published more than 30 research articles and textbook chapters on diverse surgical topics. In his new role as the Trauma Medical Director, Dr. Gale’s knowledge, skill and proven leadership, will enable Saint Alphonsus staff to continue providing the most comprehensive trauma care in Idaho, Oregon and the region.

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is the only Level 2 Trauma Center between Salt Lake City and Portland, and serves Southern Idaho, Northern Nevada and Eastern Oregon.
