Sister of the Holy Cross, Local Non-Profit, Physician Receive Awards
A Sister, local non-profit and trauma surgeon have been recognized by the Saint Alphonsus Foundation for their leadership and support of the ongoing mission of Saint Alphonsus as part of the Foundation’s 32nd annual Distinguished Citizens Award.
“Our honorees have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to our community by giving of themselves in distinct and wonderful ways,” said Jill Aldape, Vice President of Philanthropy for the Saint Alphonsus Foundation. “It is a pleasure to illuminate all their good works.”
Sister Beth Mulvaney, CSC began her time in Idaho in 1968, first working as a teacher at Bishop Kelley High School. After embarking on mission work in Indiana, Colorado, Utah, California, and Israel, Sister Beth returned to Idaho and Saint Alphonsus in 1999 and counts as the biggest blessing of her ministry her relationships and interactions with other colleagues, caregivers, leaders and members of the medical staff serving our patients and colleagues. She has been able to demonstrate the core value of Compassion held by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, and we are blessed to have her in our hospital and community.
Dustin's Paw of Idaho converts difficult tasks into independence by engaging the unique bond between dogs and children. Using specially trained dogs and particular (specific) commands and positioning, the expert staff members of Dustin’s Paw motivate children to accomplish outlined goals and objectives, which are difficult for children who have difficulty moving, getting dressed, swallowing food and processing language. But, on any given day at Saint Alphonsus Rehabilitation Services (STARS) Pediatrics and Jumpstart, you might find a child gaining strength and endurance by pulling a dog on a scooter board, taking a dog for a ride on a special bike, throwing a ball, or using an iPad app to command the dogs by voice, sign or speech communication devices. Dustin's Paw of Idaho was represented by Founder and Canine Modality Specialist Diane Rambelberg.
The Distinguished Doctor Award was presented to Bill Morgan, MD. In 2007, Dr. Morgan was invited to join Saint Alphonsus as a trauma surgeon. He became the Trauma Medical Director in June 2009 and was successful in re-verifying Saint Alphonsus as an American College of Surgeons Level II Trauma Center. Dr. Morgan applied for his previous work as a flight surgeon to his work at Saint Alphonsus, helping the Life Flight network grow to the largest not-for-profit air ambulance service in the U.S. He also worked with the Idaho Legislature to create the Time Sensitive Emergency System in Idaho -- a system unique to the U.S.
In February 2019, Bill accepted the position of Medical Director of Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco, Texas; however, his contributions to his Saint Alphonsus patients, families, and colleagues will not be forgotten.
