Dashboards

Testing Volume (Page 1): This is the number of tests administered in a Saint Alphonsus setting and the number of those patients whose results were positive, meaning that the virus may be present, whether or not a person has symptoms. These are not antibody tests that might show that a person may have had the virus in the past. Numbers here are only from tests administered within a Saint Alphonsus setting.  When county-specific information is provided, this is the county of residence of the respective patients.

Hospital Admissions (Page 2): This is the number of adults hospitalized within Saint Alphonsus Health System who have tested positive for COVID-19, compared to the total number of adult patients hospitalized within a Saint Alphonsus facility for all reasons (excluding adult patients hospitalized for rehabilitation, behavioral health, and skilled nursing care).  When county specific information is provided, this is the county of residence of the respective patients.

About Our Dashboard

The use of COVID-19 data is used to help public health professionals, policymakers, and health care providers monitor the spread of COVID-19 and facilitate a better understanding of illness, severity, and treatment interventions. As we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, Saint Alphonsus uses detailed and accurate data to help understand and track the outbreak within our health system to strengthen our prevention and response efforts. This ultimately allows us to make informed, reverent decisions on patient care, provide a safe work environment for our colleagues, and keep our patients and community safe.

As a member of the Idaho and Oregon state-wide public health coalitions involved in combating COVID-19, Saint Alphonsus also shares this data with local, state, and national public health agencies to shape policies and establish guidelines that impact health care, the economy, and education in Idaho.

At Saint Alphonsus, we recognize that accurate and relevant data can also help the public make well-informed decisions regarding their healthcare. For this reason, we have created a COVID-19 Activity Dashboard to provide public visibility to this information. The data is updated for the previous day and represents a point in time.

These numbers are for Saint Alphonsus activity only. For information on COVID-19 Activity reports at other hospitals, health systems, and health care organizations in Idaho and Oregon, please consult national, state, and local resources. To make effective use of the data, please read the provided narrative to help you understand the specific data that is being shared.

Key Metrics

  • COVID-19 Tests Dashboard - The testing numbers are Saint Alphonsus Health System-specific data. They are important because they give us visibility into how the disease is spreading in the communities we serve, which helps us anticipate hospitalizations 1-3 weeks down the road. When county specific information is provided, this is the county of residence of the respective patients.
    • COVID-19 Testing by Day - this data shows the overall number of COVID-19 tests administered in a Saint Alphonsus setting each day (gray bar), how many of those tests are pending results (yellow bar), and how many of those tests showed COVID-positive results (red bar).
    • Percent of Patients Testing Positive for COVID-19 at Saint Alphonsus Health System by Day (14-day Average) - Each point on this chart shows the number of positive COVID-19 tests results in the last 14 days as a percentage of the total number of test results during the same time period. This measure is also known as the positivity rate. The line connecting the data points illustrates how the 14-day average positivity rate is trending over time. The positivity rate helps determine when the spread of the virus is under control. For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a state or region maintain a positivity rate at 5 percent or lower for at least two weeks before relaxing physical distancing practices. An important note, when an area's positivity rate is high, it may be an indication that the amount of testing may not be sufficient to capture the true spread of the virus, as opposed to the true positivity rate
  • Hospital Admissions Dashboard - These metrics help us track how many patients in our hospitals are COVID-19-positive compared to patients in the hospital for other reasons. This data is important because, as the percentage of COVID-19-positive patient grows, it informs our decisions about other types of care we may need to reduce to accommodate care for COVID-19-positive patients (such as elective surgeries and procedures). These numbers do not account for pediatric patients or patients who visit a hospital emergency room and do not end up requiring overnight admission to the hospital. The main graphs show system-wide data. When county specific information is provided, this is the county of residence of the respective patients.
    • Patients hospitalized for all reason - Adults admitted to a Saint Alphonsus hospital as an inpatient (needing treatment that requires hospitalization for at least one night). This number excludes adult patients hospitalized for rehabilitation, behavioral health, and skilled nursing care.
    • COVID-19-positive patients hospitalized - Adults admitted to a Saint Alphonsus hospital as an inpatient who have tested positive for COVID-19.
    • o Percent of patients that are COVID-19-positive in Saint Alphonsus Health System hospitals by day - This measure of COVID-19-positive adult inpatients as a percentage of the total number of adult inpatients is an indicator of how COVID-19-related patient care is shaping Saint Alphonsus operations (available beds, staff allocation, PPE supply consumption, etc.). It helps us evaluate our overall capacity for care. Even small changes in this patient ratio can have a significant impact on our operations.
