Stay Hydrated This Summer

While it’s important to drink water year-round, you’ll want to pay extra attention to your hydration level when you’re in the sun. The dry summer heat can put you at risk for dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. An easy way to prevent these conditions is making sure you’re drinking enough water. Here are 5 tips to help you stay hydrated this summer.

1. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already slightly dehydrated. It’s best to sip throughout the day.

2. It’s okay if you don’t like the taste of plain water. You can add fruit or other flavoring to make it more to your taste.

3. Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables. Certain fruits and vegetables like watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and celery contain plenty of water and nutrients.

4. Stay inside when it gets too hot to avoid overheating. Plan outdoor activities for the early morning or evening in order to beat the heat.

5. Avoid alcoholic, caffeinated, and sugary drinks. These beverages are loaded with sodium, sugar, and other ingredients that work against hydration.
