Idaho’s First Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU
October 26, 2022Categories: Community, Medical Innovations
Proceeds from the 2022 Festival of Trees go to the Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU by helping to fund the unit’s portable CT scanner.
As the region’s destination for neuro trauma care, we understand what it takes to bring the most advanced treatment to Idaho. Therefore, when time is critical patients do not have to leave the state.
That is why Saint Alphonsus is building the Idaho’s first Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU. It brings three distinct services together in one place. It adds critical care bed capacity, the latest technology, and a team of multidisciplinary experts working together. This ensures patients have the highest level of care when they need it most.
Did You Know?
- This new Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU will enhance our care for the most complex neurologic injury cases. Backed by our Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center designations, it adds Idaho’s first fellowship trained, board certified, neuro intensivist to our care team.
- This will be the region’s first ICU to support neuro injury and surgical specialty needs. It is supported by 24/7 critical care boarded acute care surgeons.
- This highly specialized multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff includes neuro critical care intensivists, trauma critical care surgeons, neurosurgeons, pulmonologists, critical care intensivists, and additional specialty consultants as needed.
- This will add 35 critical care beds to our existing 42 critical care beds. It will support community growth and an aging population that has led to a shortage of ICU beds in the Treasure Valley.
- Each patient room will have an overhead ceiling lift to encourage mobility and provide caregiver support.
- A portable CT scanner for bed-side surveillance scans will decrease transport time for critically ill patients who would otherwise have to go from their ICU room to a stationary scanner.
Proceeds from this year’s Saint Alphonsus Festival of Trees will benefit the new Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU by helping to fund the unit’s portable CT scanner. This scanner streamlines patient care and improves patient experience by drastically reducing the time it takes to perform CT scans. The patient receives their scan bedside, no longer needing to be moved from their ICU bed to another location.
