On your marks, get set, go!
Saint Alphonsus and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA hosted the 40th Annual Capitol Classic Children’s Race on Saturday June 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Nearly 1,000 children participated in the one mile run down Capitol Boulevard from the historic Boise Train Depot to Cecil D. Andrus Park.
The Saint Alphonsus Capitol Classic Race started in 1984 to encourage children to become interested in physical fitness. The race has continued for 40 years and serves as a tradition for many Treasure Valley families. Now it is a partnership between Saint Alphonsus and the YMCA, who co-organize this event to improve the health of our community. This year was the 40th Anniversary of combining the “fun-ness of fitness” with the fresh air of the Treasure Valley.
The race is open to kids ages 6 to 14, of all abilities and takes place on a one-mile historic route ending at Cecil D. Andrus Park. All participants received a medal, t-shirt, and refreshments at the Finish Fair after the race to conclude a day of fun and fitness!
Proceeds from this event benefitted the YMCA’s Thrive program which offers a safe center and caring staff for children and young adults who are neurodiverse.
The Capitol Classic Kids Race and its partners are committed to ensuring all children can experience the joy of physical fitness in community.
