About
As a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Trauma surgeon, Dr. Black specializes in the care of traumatically injured patients with fractures and other injuries to the musculoskeletal system – including both the more routine and the more complex. He cares for patients with injuries to nearly any part of the skeleton, including the pelvis and acetabulum, periarticular fractures about the shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle, and foot. He is also trained in the treatment of fractures that healed badly (malunion) or did not heal at all (nonunion).
He enjoys both surgical and nonsurgical care. As he would explain, it is a gift to be able to help any one patient recover from serious injury, and get back to living the life that they are called upon to live. The specifics of that vary widely between patients, and the challenge of contextualizing the care to fit within the needs of the unique circumstances of each patient’s life and context is part of what drew Dr. Black to the field.
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Black attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He remained at OHSU for his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Black received additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma at the world-renowned Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He is delighted to have settled here in Boise, and he looks forward to caring for our community for many years to come.
Dr. Black has many interests outside the hospital, though nothing can approach the honor, the joy, and the sheer delight that comes from being a father to his two children, a son and a daughter.
