Meals on Wheels
Saint Alphonsus Medical Center — Nampa Meals on Wheels provides meals primarily to homebound people who are age 60 or older. Participants must be unable to drive and have no one available to assist them on a regular basis. Referrals are handled through the local Area Agency on Aging at 208-332-1745, and can be made by anyone. When the Area Agency on Aging receives a referral, an assessment is performed to determine eligibility and the Saint Alphonsus Meals on Wheels office is notified to begin service.
Meals on Wheels is not an emergency food service program. Meals for this program are available on a five-day per week basis, and freezer meals are available for the weekends. The meals are prepared in the nutrition service department of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center — Nampa.
A typical meal consists of servings from the protein, vegetable and starch food groups. Dessert, fruit, half a pint of milk and juice accompany each meal. Special diets are available as needed. The meals are delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the City of Nampa and immediate rural areas.
Meals on Wheels is funded by Federal and State government, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center — Nampa and the community. Donations from the program participants are accepted, but not required. The suggested donation is $8 per day.
