What is a Surgical Oncologist?
A surgical oncologist is a general surgeon who has special training in procedures for diagnosing, staging (determining the stage of cancer), or removing cancerous growths. The most frequently performed procedures done by a surgical oncologist are biopsies and surgery for cancerous growth removal. An oncologist will also perform surgery to stage cancer and determine how far cancer has spread. A surgical oncologist may also perform preventive surgeries.
