Military and Veterans Health Program
Military and Veterans (MILVET) Health Program Dedicated to the Well-being of Our Military Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families
Saint Alphonsus boasts a rich legacy of delivering compassionate healthcare to our communities, and our commitment to this essential mission remains unwavering. Safeguarding the health of our community is at the heart of our overarching mission, and addressing the healthcare needs of military service members and veterans is a pivotal aspect of our endeavor.
Saint Alphonsus has commenced a pilot initiative to furnish military service members, veterans, and their families with convenient access to top-tier, culturally sensitive, and person-centric healthcare services tailored to their unique needs.
Our pledge within the MILVET Program encompasses a commitment to delivering respectful and culturally competent healthcare services through the following avenues:
Expertly Trained Providers and Staff:
Our healthcare providers at have undergone specialized training to comprehensively understand and respond to the health concerns specific to the military community. This training encompasses:
- In-depth knowledge of military culture, including the nuances of various military service branches.
- Recognition of crucial illnesses and injuries associated with military service and deployments.
- Understanding the impact of military service and deployments on family members.
- Competence in providing compassionate care for current and former female service members.
Patient Identification Process:
We recognize the importance of identifying patients who are military service members, veterans, or their families. To streamline this process, we have incorporated military-community-specific questions into our registration and intake forms and electronic medical records.
Warm Welcome:
From the moment you step into our facilities, you will experience the assurance that you and your family are in good hands. As a tribute to your military background, each of our four Saint Alphonsus Health System hospitals proudly displays the flags of the five military service branches in their lobbies—a visible reminder of the commitment made by our military service members, veterans, and their families to our country.
Personal Recognition:
We take pride in recognizing all military service members and veterans who desire acknowledgment during registration. During their stay, they will receive a small flag on their patient bracelet and a military magnet outside their hospital room.
Community Outreach:
Our commitment extends beyond hospital walls. The MILVET Program actively engages in community outreach, collaborating with local, state, and national veteran service organizations. This collaborative approach ensures the optimization of resources and serves as an asset to existing military service organizations.
Advocacy:
Advocacy is integral to our Military and Veteran Health Program. We are in the process of establishing the Saint Alphonsus MILVET Committee, comprising veterans, family members, and advocates for veterans. This committee is designed to keep veteran issues and barriers to accessing healthcare at the forefront, continuously shaping our healthcare environment to be competent and relevant in serving veterans and their families.
