Re-verification reflects optimal care for injured patients throughout the Saint Alphonsus Health System
Boise, ID – Saint Alphonsus Trauma Center has been re-verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes the Trauma Center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
The ACS’ Committee on Trauma Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers that provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the pre-hospital phase with care that is delivered on-scene or in local hospital emergency rooms all the way through the rehabilitation process.
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual. Each hospital has a rigorous on-site review by a team of experienced site surveyors, who use the current manual as a guideline in conducting the survey.
“For decades, Saint Alphonsus has always taken pride in providing the best possible care for the most critically ill and injured patients in our area,” said Sally Jeffcoat, Saint Alphonsus Health System President, and CEO. “The surveyors were very impressed by our commitment to the Trauma Center Program and noted that our volume and acuity level is comparable to many Level I Trauma Centers. They also remarked on the very strong commitment to our Trauma service from orthopedics, neuroscience, trauma and intensive care teams, and complimented our exceptional Trauma Program leadership.”
“Our Level II Trauma Center re-verification is a result of dedicated, hard work by physicians, clinical care staff, and associates around the Regional Medical Center in Boise,” said Dr. Bill Morgan, Saint Alphonsus Trauma Medical Director. “It is also a testament to the work on integrating best practices that our pre-hospital providers and local emergency departments throughout our region have done to be committed to the optimal care of the trauma patient.”
“Because Saint Alphonsus works relentlessly to maintain our trauma quality distinctions, we make the overall care all our patients receive that much better,” confirms Jeffcoat. “This is not just relevant in Boise, but is visible through the clinical integration work currently underway throughout our health system in Nampa, Ontario and Baker City.”
