US News and World Report Ranks SARMC #1 for Quality of Care
Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, the region’s only Level II Trauma Center, has been recognized as the top hospital in Idaho for treating heart attacks. US News and World Report’s annual 2020-21 hospital rankings named SARMC as a Platinum Award Recipient for treating Chest Pain – MI (myocardial infarction), or a heart attack.
The rankings reflect the hospital’s performance on 15 performance measures, providing timely guideline-driven care that has been shown to improve patient outcomes after having a heart attack or cardiac arrest. The guidelines are best practice treatments recommended by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.
“This recognition speaks highly of the outstanding team of cardiac professionals here at Saint Alphonsus,” said Dr. Mark Parent, MD., Chest Pain Program Medical Director. “When dealing with heart attacks, every second is precious and can determine whether there’s a successful outcome for the patient. We take great pride in knowing that we’re providing the highest level of care for heart attack patients in Idaho.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 805,000 Americans suffer a heart attack annually. That’s one every 40 seconds. The CDC estimates that more than 3,000 Idahoans died from heart disease in 2018, the most recent year statistics are available.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Idahoans,” said Odette Bolano, President and CEO of Saint Alphonsus Health System. “As our region grows, the incidences of heart attacks will also grow. The Saint Alphonsus team of cardiac care specialists is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art tools and training to care for these patients. It’s gratifying to see their hard work rewarded by this prestigious recognition.”
Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is designated a Level I STEMI Center by the Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency System and the only American College of Cardiology Accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation in Idaho.
