SAINT ALPHONSUS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER FIRST IN IDAHO WITH NEW ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY FOR COLORECTAL SURGERY

Boise, ID — March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in the area to offer Stapler technologies on the da Vinci robotic system for colorectal surgeries. The daVinci utilizes the most advanced robotic technology to enhance surgical capabilities and serves as an alternative to many traditional, open surgeries.

Surgeons are able to perform delicate and complex operations through tiny incisions with breakthrough vision, precision, dexterity, and control. This type of minimally invasive surgery commonly reduces a patient’s blood loss, pain and recovery time.

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise is one of the first hospitals in the U.S. and the first in Idaho to utilize a da Vinci robot outfitted with the EndoWrist Stapler, helping make colon and rectal surgery less invasive and more precise. Dr. Johnny Green is one of only two colon and rectal surgeons in a 6-state region that has access to the EndoWrist Stapler.

“The capabilities of the da Vinci at Saint Alphonsus cannot be matched locally,” said Dr. Green. “The new stapler allows for much more flexibility and for the patient, it means low blood loss, a quicker return to physical functions, a normal diet, and a shorter hospital stay after colorectal surgery.”

Dr. Green performs colorectal surgeries on the da Vinci for conditions such as colon cancer, rectal cancer, diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and rectal prolapse.

“We are proud to have the most advanced da Vinci robot available, equaling better surgical experiences for our patients," said Dr. Steven Brown, Chief Medical Officer at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
