Oregon Partnership for Patients awards Saint Alphonsus
for excellence in reducing infections, elective delivery, and blood clots
Ontario, OR — Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario was recently recognized by the Oregon Partnership for Patients for excellence in patient safety outcomes. Saint Alphonsus was honored for reducing central-line bloodstream, ventilator, surgical, and catheter infections, as well as reductions in early elective delivery and a low incidence of preventable blood clots.
"We're always working to achieve the highest level of patient outcomes," said Nancy Hoffhines, clinical quality nurse at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario. "These recent awards from the Oregon Partnership for Patients are the culmination of the outstanding work done by the entire staff. I am proud to be working with administrators, clinicians, and providers that are so passionate about the health of the patients and the community."
Measures for success in reducing infections, early elective delivery, and preventable blood clots are closely monitored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal oversight body for hospitals and healthcare organizations. A total of 33 hospitals participated in the Oregon Partnership for Patients program, and less than half received Saint Alphonsus' level of recognition. In addition to the awards from the Oregon Partnership for Patients, $2,500 was provided to the hospital to fund continual measures of success for the future.
The complete award list presented to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario includes a 40% reduction in:
- Central Line Acquired Bloodstream Infections
- Surgical Site Infections
- Ventilator Acquired Infections
- Catheter Acquired Urinary Tract Infections
- Early Elective Delivery
- Potentially-preventable Venus Thrombosis Events (blood clots)
