Boise, ID – Corey Surber, Director of State Advocacy for the Saint Alphonsus Health System, has become the first woman to serve as Chair of the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry (IACI), the influential business lobbying organization.
Surber has worked for Saint Alphonsus for more than 27 years, starting her career as a Medical Transcriptionist in the Cancer Institute. She then transitioned to her government affairs role, first as Director of Advocacy and Community Benefit, before taking a position as Executive Director, Community Health and Public Policy. She assumed her current position as Director of State Advocacy for Saint Alphonsus’ parent company, Trinity Health, in January 2016.
“This is a tremendous honor for Corey to be the first woman to serve as IACI Chair,” said Odette Bolano, President and CEO of Saint Alphonsus Health System. “She’s a valuable member of my leadership team, and has worked effectively to help business, government and healthcare organizations contribute to strengthen our state and communities.”
IACI represents about 300 Idaho employers of all sizes in such diverse fields as agriculture and food service, technology, accounting firms and banks, utilities, manufacturing and construction, as well as chambers of commerce from Idaho’s large and small cities and associations representing a wide variety of interests in this quest to shape policy for a bright economic future.
“Corey has served in many roles with IACI. She is a strong influence in Idaho public policy and is very well respected throughout the business community. We appreciate her willingness to lead IACI for the next two years,” said Alex LaBeau, IACI President.
Besides her role at Saint Alphonsus, Surber is an Adjunct Professor at Boise State University. Active in her community, she’s also served as a Board Member and Board President of the Boys & Girls Club of Ada County and the United Way of Treasure Valley.
